Professional equality index

Under French law, Decree No. 2019-15 of January 8, 2019 aims to eliminate the pay gap between women and men.
The gender equality index allows companies to measure the differences in pay and the situation between women and men.
It highlights the appropriate and relevant measures of correction when these disparities are unjustified.
The objective set by the government is to eliminate the 9% existing gaps at the national level in 3 years.

The index is scored out of 100 points. It is calculated from four indicators for companies with 50 to 250 employees:
1. The pay gap between women and men, for comparable positions and ages.
2. The difference in the distribution of individual increases between women and men.
3. The percentage of employees who received an increase in the year following their return from maternity leave, if increases occurred during the period during which the leave was taken.
4. Parity between women and men among the ten highest salary earners.

The index must be published each year on the websites and communicated to the social and economic committee (CSE) and the labor inspectorate (DREETS).
Since March 1, 2020, publication of the gender equality index has been obligatory for all companies with more than 50 employees.
